Mobsters in America - Stephanie St Clair - The Queen of the Harlem Numbers Rackets
by
Joseph Bruno
Stephanie St. Clair was born in 1886, in Marseilles, an island in the East Caribbean. At the age of 26 she immigrated to New York City and settled in Harlem. Almost immediately, she hooked up with the Forty Thieves, a white gang who were in existence since the 1850's. There is no record of what St. Clair did for the next ten years, but it's safe to say, considering her ties to the Forty Thieves, a notorious shake-down gang, what she did was anything but legal.

Get Lite Street Dance
by
Sadie Backhurst
Getting Lite also called getting dark, lite feet or getting heavy, is a type of street dance movement presently gaining notoriety in urban and street groups, that began in Harlem, NY. It usually happens when a group of people meet and clap a variation of a clap a four count beat over and over. Dancers can then go into the circle and perform moves that are akin to Jerkin, the chicken noodle soup, and the Harlem shake.

Identifying The New School Moves and Accessories
by
Heather Matthews
About three decades ago, we witnessed the Old School era of dancing and music, which involved funky styles and classical routines. And then came the transition, and in the last decade, came the New School era, with its fast beats, aggressive dances, and more subtle styles. From Harlem shake to c-walk, Hip Hop was on the rise, as the major form of dancing in the modern times.

Hip Hop Dance - From the Streets to a Global Dance Form
by
Mindy Love Watkins
From the 80's street corner in NY and LA you could see the locking, popping, freestyle, up-rocking, down-rocking, grinding, the running man, gangsta walking, krumping, the Harlem shake and breaking. Inside the cipher, the formation circle gathered around a dancer gave birth to the first informal competition. When passerby's witnessed these freestyle dancers on the streets, in casual and frequent settings, they became more interested.

Practice Creativity
by
Maria Grace
Imagine someone asking you "How many hours a week do you spend working?" or "What do you do?" you are likely to answer something like, "I am a full-time student and I work part-time at a department store," or "I am a full-time mom of three boys," or "I am a professor," or "I am a computer analyst," etc. Your answer describes the daily routine of what you do for a living, which is a job that gives you income, a social identity, a certain professional status and, sometimes, public recognition. However rewarding, very often a job includes duties, tasks and requirements that we are obliged to perform, whether we like them or not. Our freedom to do only what we like in our job is almost always limited. This is a main reason why so many people suffer from job-related dissatisfaction and see their work as the necessary evil they must endure in exchange for a monthly paycheck.

As they say, if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere... or, you can leave with your tail between your legs.
