5 Tips to Keep Your Marketing Campaign From Getting Swallowed by the Ides of March
by
Tony Finazzo
The Ides of March are conveniently located at the end of that 6 weeks of additional winter Puxatoni Phil lined up for the year and at about the right time for all that momentum you managed to build up over the New Year to start fading away. You don't have the eternal beauty of spring around to guide you on your quest for creative excellence, and you're about to start losing the hyperdrive on your marketing campaign.

The Ides of March

Movie Reviews this week looks at the George Clooney produced and directed The Ides of March, starring George Clooney (Ocean's 11) and Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson) as Stephen Meyers and Governor Mike Morris respectively. It tells the story of the Democratic primaries to find out who will lead the Democratic party in the soon to be held presidential elections, but as the William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar inspired title hints at, the focus of the movie is on the background incidents involving the media spin doctors, who mainly represent Governor Morris, Stephen Meyers and Paul Zara played by the always impressive Philip Seymour Hoffman (Charlie Wilson's War).

Ides of March Movie

The Ides of March is an interesting political drama directed by George Clooney (Ocean's 11), who stars as Governor Mike Morris and also stars Ryan Gosling (Full Nelson) as Stephen Meyer, a media analyst who along with Paul Zara played by the always impressive Phillip-Seymour Hoffman try to give Governor Morris a media edge as Ohio prepares to vote for a Democratic candidate to represent the party in the presidential election. The Ides of March gives an insight into the life of the political spin doctors and media advisers, that are never seen but make up the bulk of a political candidate's armoury. They are willing to go the extra mile to get the candidate they believe in elected, complete with smearing the opposition as Governor Morris and his rival for the Ohio Primary fight for the Democratic nomination.

Et Tu, Clooney - The Ides Of March Is A Date To Be Kept
by
Paul Anthony Llossas
The best of Shakespeare's plays dealt in some form or another with political machinations and intrigue. MacBeth, Titus Andronicus, Richard III, and of course, the above referenced Julius Caesar. However, the power of those works stem not from the politics themselves, but the effects of political intrigue have on the participants. Like the play from which the film's title is cribbed, "The Ides of March" shows the how the quest for power in the political arena can shatter perceptions and compromise integrity.

Movie Review - The Ides of March (2011)

George Clooney - the co-writer, co-producer, and director of The Ides of March - cast himself in a supporting role as a Pennsylvania governor turned Democratic presidential candidate. As self-congratulatory as you may find this, I've actually seen the movie, and believe you me, no one else could have played this character. In politics, it's not just about a candidate's party platform; it's also about charm and affability, the sense that the man or woman running for office is a nice, likeable person.
