Through the ages many mnemonics rhymes have been used to describe the appearance of a ivy. Some of the most useful ones are: 1. "Leaves of three, let it be" this is used to describe the trifoliate pattern of the leaf arrangement. This is the moist striking feature of the ivy. The leaves are generally smooth and occasionally can have serrated edges.
