James Herbert, The Ultimate Horror Writer
by
Alan To
James Herbert, for me - and doubtless for thousands of other horror fans too - is the ultimate horror writer. He is so consummate and can write any kind of horror story, be it one about monstrous mutant rats on the rampage, contaminated fog rising from an earthquake to turn people into homicidal maniacs, or a simple ghost story about a creepy old mansion deep in the woods. His talent for writing a good horror story is reflected in his enduring worldwide popularity and his millions of book sales, all of which continue to be reprinted for a...

James Herbert - Britain's Best Horror Writer
by
Ivor G Goligher
He is quite frequently described as Britain's Number 1 Chiller Writer and with over 50 million sales you'd have to agree he's doing something right. Years ago before I really got into books I remember seeing the name on a shelf at Waterstones, my local bookstore, but I didn't give much weight to the name, mainly through ignorance because I didn't have a clue who he was. It wasn't long after that I decided to venture a little and read blurbs on the back of a number of his novels.

Mobsters - James Hines - The Ultimate Political Fixer
by
Joseph Bruno
He started off as a simple Harlem blacksmith, but when he dug his fat fingers deep into Tammany Hall, James Hines became the biggest political fixer in the history of New York City. Hines was born on December 18, 1876, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. His father operated a blacksmith shop on 121st Street and Eight Avenue, and when his father became ill, Hines took over his father's business at the age of 17.

Musings by Starlight - In Defence of the Herbert Syndrome
by
Mia Manns
Some may argue that the underlying force guiding authors of multiple novels set in the same universe is that of monetary compensation. As a life-long reader of science fiction who is still working on the Dune and Wheel of Time series', I would say that this motive is over-simplified at best. If a universe still has possibilities for commentary on the nature of our world, why shouldn't it be used to tell more stories about the human race?
