His Most Famous Painting (Untitled Head-Skull) - Jean Michel Basquiat
by
Annette Labedzki
Maverick American artist, Jean Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) was an unorthodox painter. He began his career as a graffiti artist in the streets of New York to eventually emerge as a lead figure in the 'Neo-Expressionist' art scene. Animate and inanimate forms in rather violent representations, with a brutal force of emotions, characterize 'Neo-Expressionism.' In line with this, outrageous color schemes and grotesque expressions also were integral to Basquiat's works. In the year 1981, the artist came up with his first major work, "Untitled Head," which also became one of his choicest paintings.

Bottle Shock - Sideways in Napa Valley
by
Barrie Cleveland
Bottle Shock the movie is an entertaining, albeit not completely factual look at the events leading up to the famous 1976 "Judgment in Paris". In that competition, California wines beat out their French counterparts in a blind tasting, putting California wines firmly on the wine map. It is a good romp in the vineyard and shows us what the Napa of old was like and how things have changed since.

Obesity Articles Shock Us With Survey Results
by
Leon Dewet Nel
One of the obesity articles I came across by Coni Anderson is interesting in terms of some shocking results of surveys he mentions. In particular he refers to a survey amongst 5 year old children who said they would rather lose an arm than be fat! It is rather disturbing to know that our society has placed such an enormous stigma on being overweight and yet we do not seem to be making progress in reducing obesity.

D Michelle Gent
A short story that has been included in an anthology. It's the tale of the very last vampire 'alive' (undead?) and what happens when a journalist interviews him.
